Join us for Christmas Eve Service at 5 PM. No Sunday Service on Dec. 25.

About Sojourn Church and Perry, GA

Sojourn had it's first public service in August 2011, but praying for and dreaming about this church plant started several years earlier. We currently have approximately 135 adult members. We take our mission very seriously, which is to see gospel transformation. By God's grace, we are a growing church (in number and spiritual maturity) full of people that have been and are being transformed!
Our Children's Ministry on Sunday mornings is for newborns through third graders. We average 45 children on Sunday mornings and have approximately 12 adult and teen volunteers teaching and leading classes. We currently have 5 classes divided by age. We have classes for Infants, Toddlers, Pre-School, K-1st, and 2nd-3rd.  Club 4/5 is our 4th-5th grade ministry that currently meets on Sunday evenings. We have 10-15 children at that gathering. We currently use the Gospel Project curriculum, and we will finish the first three year rotation later this year.

Our Children's Ministry blesses the church in several ways. First, our Children's Ministry leaders teach and show the love of God to our children. They also serve parents who are in "big church" by being with their young children. Finally, the Children's Ministry seeks to equip parents to be the primary disciplers of their children by resourcing and encouraging them.
Our members live in several different "cities".  You normally have no clue when you pass from one of these cities/towns into the next. You could live in Perry, Warner Robins, Bonaire, Kathleen, Byron, Elko, or Centerville and be within good driving distance to the church building. Perry, especially downtown Perry, offers small town charm. The Air Force base in Warner Robins employs almost 24,000 people, which brings stability to our local economy and brings in people from all sorts of places. We are 90 minutes south of the Atlanta Airport and approximately 25 minutes south of Macon, which has concerts, minor league sports, and a downtown vibe. We are just over 4 hours to Panama City Beach, 3 hours from Ga. beaches, and 3 hours from the North Ga. Mountains. Our area has some nice public parks, a water park that kids love,  many restaurants, and other attractions, but what most of us love most about our community is the people. People in our church are frequently gathering in homes for community groups, pool parties, meals with old and new friends, football watch parties, and all sorts of other events. Our church has families that homeschool, go to private schools, and go to public schools. Houston County School District is known as one of the best school districts in all of Georgia, and especially as one of the best outside the Atlanta area.

About The Position

We are seeking our next Children's Ministry Director. A great candidate will be a person that loves Jesus, has a passion for seeing children and parents transformed by the gospel, and is organizationally strong and relationally warm.

    • Volunteers have been scheduled and confirmed.
      • (We currently have our church's administrative assistant overseeing the scheduling of volunteers, but the Director is still ultimately responsible.)

  • Children are being taught the scriptures and are growing in knowledge of the gospel as evidenced by conversations they are having with their teachers/parents and potentially baptisms.
  • Volunteers and parents are not confused because they are being communicated to with regularity and clarity.
  • Our pastors are not worried about the logistics of Children's Ministry on Sunday morning because they have confidence the logistics are being overseen by the Children's Ministry Director.

*Of course, the Children's Ministry Director must have a passion to see children grow in their love for Jesus, but please know that much of what this person does is not directly with children. This person oversees many adult volunteers and works on the systems and structures of the ministry to help it stay organized and run effectively. That being said, there are opportunities to directly invest in and teach children as well.

Supervision & Structure

The Director of Preaching & Head of Staff (Pastor Jason B.) will supervise our Children's Ministry Director until our Director of Operations begins in February of 2025. Jason will seek to provide encouragement, equipping, and accountability. The Children's Ministry Director will collaborate closely with church leadership and staff, will work with Children's Ministry volunteers, and will communicate often with parents.

Time Commitment & Schedule

20 hours/week
Our office is closed on Mondays, and all staff are off. Staff meetings are currently Tuesday and Thursday mornings. Sunday mornings  and Club 4/5 will count as work hours.

Additional Notes

We are open to hiring a Children's Ministry Director who will work less than 20 hours/week and desires to have a co-director or assistant. We will discuss the details of the arrangement as we determine who the director will be and hear his/her thoughts and preferences. We believe there may be several advantages to having two Children's Ministry staff, including...
  • As long as we have one service, the Children's Ministry staff would be able to be in the "big church service" at minimum every other week.
  • If we go to two services, one staff person would oversee the first service, and the other staff person would oversee the second service. They would both be able to  oversee children's ministry for one service and attend "big church" each Sunday.
  • They will be able to collaborate on Children's Ministry initiatives, which could help keep each person encouraged and feeling less like they are on their own leading the ministry.
